OUR MISSION
Backpacks for America’s mission is to assist those within our most vulnerable communities by purchasing, packaging and distributing basic living necessities. We do this by filling backpacks with winter gear, hygienic and medical products as well as other supplies and provide this to people experiencing homelessness.
HOW WE DO THIS
Through our fundraising efforts and your support, we are able to raise enough money to purchase the backpacks and all other needed supplies. Our team then collects and assembles the backpacks and provides them to our distribution partners for delivery.
WHEN WE DO THIS
We conduct our fundraising efforts during the winter holidays season. This allows us to provide backpacks during the cold winter months as well as provide hope and cheer to people experiencing homelessness for the holidays.
WHERE WE DO THIS
We are based out of Boston, Massachusetts and currently serve the Boston area. We welcome donations and support from anyone throughout the country. Our hope is to expand our mission to new locations and vulnerable populations.
WHY WE DO THIS
The National Alliance to End Homelessness, estimates that 580,466 individuals experiencing homelessness in January of 2020. This is a problem we see first-hand in our communities and cannot turn a blind eye. Although it will not solve the homelessness crisis in our communities, we feel that even something as small as a backpack full of winter gear and living necessities can provide hope in a time of duress.
